About Mr. Melchor
Hello, my name is Miguel Melchor, and I will be your child's fourth grade teacher. During my senior year in high school, I decided to embark in a journey towards becoming an educator. That same year I was nominated by my counselor for the Golden Apple Scholar Award and was selected to become a 2010 Golden Apple Scholar. I completed my degree at The University of Illinois at Chicago. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Education: Elementary Education. In addition, I have a middle school endorsement, with a specialization in mathematics. This fall, I will be pursuing a Bilingual and ESL endorsement through the support of Project MASTEL.
I have had the privilege to work with students in Rogers Park, Brighton Park, Austin, Edgewater, and Pilsen. I believe that investing myself in students’ communities helps foster relationships and create mutual trust. Developing a positive collaboration with parents and community members is essential for the success of the child, and allows for the creation of nurturing environment where high expectations are more readily facilitated.
I have experienced the impact that a teacher can have on a student, and I want to be that lifelong mentor for your children. As I continuously reflect on my personal experiences, I discover that I am still constantly evolving as an educator. This continued development is the true nature of learning and should be the outcome of every educational endeavor. I look forward in meeting you and working together this school year.
